The Edinburgh What?

Edinburgh Festival Fringe, or ‘The Fringe’ as it is colloquially known, is the largest performing arts festival on the planet. In 1947, performers gathered on the peripheries of the Scottish capital to establish a festival that would provide an alternative to the more mainstream Edinburgh International Festival and, more crucially, celebrate more experiment styles of performance.

From these humble beginnings, the popularity of the Fringe has soared. Every August since, Edinburgh has become an artistic playground, available to all performers from all creative backgrounds. Un-juried and completely open-access, the Fringe is a celebration of performing arts. Shows at the Fringe vary from the completely barmy to the seriously impressive, covering the entire spectrum of comedy, drama, circus, cabaret, music, stand up, dance, and delivery of the spoken word.

The festival as we know it today continues to champion artistic freedom on an unprecedented level. In 2018 Fringe hosted 56,796 performances of 3,548 shows in 317 venues across the city. 39 of these shows were hosted by PQA Venues @ Riddle’s Court. With its zealous approach to the performing arts and totally open-door policy, the Edinburgh Fringe really must be seen to be believed.

PQA Venues is proud to be part of this unique festival and to open our doors to shows of all styles and genres. We would love to host you at the Fringe 2019 in one of our three performance spaces at the historic Riddle’s Court in the heart of the Royal Mile! If you’d like more information about performing at PQA Venues, we can send you our shiny new Fringe 2019 brochure – just drop us a line at info@pqavenues.co.uk – or take a look at the ‘Industry’ pages within our website.
