PQA Venues is looking for technical team members to join our vibrant and busy Edinburgh Fringe team. Our Edinburgh Fringe Venue, Riddle’s Court is located on the famous Royal Mile in a beautiful Category A-listed building (Equivalent to grade 2 listed). Housing 3 performance spaces for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe season this venue has a unique period style and authentic features and has recently undergone a £6 million restoration to create a vibrant space perfect for curating a diverse programme at Edinburgh Fringe.

There’s no other place like the Edinburgh Fringe, being the largest arts festival in the world there is so much to explore and PQA Venues hosts a plethora of variety. With a wide and varied program, you’ll be a key player in turning a listed building into 3 performance spaces. You’ll then be fully involved in the running of all the spaces and restoring the building to it’s original Grade 2 listed site at the end of the festival. You’ll embellish your already existing skills in sound, lighting and AV for visiting companies. PQA are passionate about arts for all and the Edinburgh Fringe is the perfect place for that, you are sure to leave with a sense of community, passion and some friends for life.

Responsibilities:

  • Taking a key role in the build and removal of the performance spaces.
  • Learn the operating systems across all spaces. Training will be provided if required.
  • Be part of technical rehearsals – programming sound, lighting and projection
  • Ensuring there are detailed Sound and LX plots and DSM scripts.
  • Briefing of and ensuring visiting technical staff are competent in the operation of all technical equipment we provide.
  • Occasionally take responsibility for start of day or end of day technical procedures.
  • Keeping the performance spaces clean and tidy.
  • Ensuring the spaces adhere to relevant Health and Safety regulations.
  • Working alongside the Front of House teams in assisting visiting companies and audience members during the get in and get out of each show.
  • Ensuring the producers’ time slots are adhered to and keeping a strict record of productions that overrun.

Dates of engagement: 27th July – 2nd of September
Fee: £1800
Working Hours: An average of 8 hours per day throughout the run, working longer days when required.

Days Off:  An average of one day off per week where possible.

The Person we’re looking for:

  • A proactive team player.
  • Basic understanding of sound, lighting and AV in a theatrical setting.
  • Basic understanding of QLab.
  • Basic experience of cueing from a script.
  • Available to work for all of the dates stated above.
  • To be willing to work split shifts.
  • To attend the venue as per the rota regardless of operating shows or not.
  • To adhere to and uphold the company ethos and policies.
  • An interest in sustainable practices.
  • Able to remain calm and work efficiently in time pressured situations.
  • Able to build a rapport with colleagues and visiting companies.

Desirable:

  • First aid qualification.
  • A qualification in technical theatre.
  • Experience working professionally as part of a theatrical technical team.
  • Stage or production management experience.

PQA Venues is looking for a Food & Beverage Manager to join our Front of House team for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Previous experience working in a theatre is desirable, alongside a passion for our productions and the arts!

PQA Venues is situated in Riddles Court, a 16th century merchant house which has undergone a £6 million restoration.  Open seven days a week during Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 10am -11pm, PQA Venues houses three performances spaces, Q1 – 100seater, Q2- 60 seater and Q 3 25 seater.

The Venue houses 70+ shows each year with an expected footfall during august of over 50,000. As Food & Beverage Manager, you will act as duty manager for the food and beverage team ensuring the highest quality of customer service and adhering to all licensing and health and safety policies. This role is key to the day to day operations of the venue as well as part of the Front of House Management team, you will be instrumental in ensuring service is kept consistent during the festival and implement future planning across departments.

The ideal candidate is someone dynamic with managerial experience who has a passion for delivering the highest levels of customer service acting as an ambassador for the PQA brand. You must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills alongside attention to detail and a track record of strong and consistent performance. The position requires exceptional people management skills with gravitas and understanding, to manage a young casual team within the ever-changing Edinburgh Fringe Festival environment.

Here is a little more information on the role:

Reports to: The Venue Manager

Manages: Bar Supervisors, Bar team, Kitchen Staff

Responsibilities:

  • To act as the face of the bar and food operations for PQA Venues, ensuring an exceptional level of customer service adaptable to the demands of the operation.
  • Oversee the induction and training of bar staff – ensuring all staff are knowledgeable and conversant in the product and menu offering.
  • Work with Front of House Manager and Venue Manager to ensure procedures are followed on reporting, stock take and inventory management.
  • Implement and maintain health and safety procedures as well as relevant training for all reporting staff.
  • Creating, Implementing and, maintaining Food & Beverage procedure in areas such as stock take, daily/weekly/ cleaning schedules, steps of service and systems of ordering.
  • Overseeing customer experience in the venue as a whole, working closely with the House Manager and other Deputies to ensure consistency and continuous training.
  • Developing and training of Supervisors to ensure consistency and development is offered throughout and assisting with the conception and delivery of training to the bar Staff team.
  • Overseeing staff availability and building work rotas with the other deputies.
  • Being responsible for line-managing the Bar Staff.
  • Lead Bar staff and Supervisors in delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Work with the House Manager to ensure the entire food and beverage operations comply with all health and safety and licensing policies.
  • Ensure that Bar Supervisors and Bar Staff are well tasked when within the building, so as to maximise their experience within the venue.
  • Supervise and motivate Bar Staff, ensuring they are helpful and knowledgeable when assisting patrons.
  • Take a lead role in managing and recording of incidents and emergencies while on duty.
  • Accurately record bar staff attendance.

Finance:
Implement, with Head Office finance team, a paying in, change and on site cash policy and schedule.

Execute weekly finance reports to the Venue Manager.

Work with Venue Manager on sales analysis and identifying opportunities and strategies for driving revenue growth and controlling costs, wastage and expenditure.

The Person we’re looking for:

  • Commitment to high levels of customer service.
  • Able to demonstrate strong communication skills alongside attention to detail and a track record of strong food and beverage management experience.
  • A ‘can do’ attitude towards situations, leading by example.
  • A calm and polite manner.
  • Experience with reporting, payroll and HR policies.
  • Previous management experience as a Restaurant Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Passion for delivering great food and customer experience, who inspires others with their energy and desire to go above and beyond our customer’s expectations.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of and working with budgets, managing wastage and driving revenue.
  • Strong people management ability in a fast paced, high volume site.
  • An open, engaging and friendly personality who has the confidence.
  • Good experience of training and successfully developing a team.
  • Attention to detail, calm under pressure and resilient.
  • Superb team working experience, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Happy to work late hours and take part and support in all theatre events.
  • Proven ability in cash handling, including end of shift reconciliation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and stock control systems.

Desirable:

  • A Scottish personal license to sell alcohol.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Food Hygiene and Health & Safety at Work.

As a member of the Front of House team, you will be the face of PQA Venues and will help to cement our reputation as Winner of Best Venue.

We are looking for friendly, outgoing, hardworking and diligent team members who can undertake all tasks required to keep the front of house running. This includes ushering for our visiting companies, box office, meet and greet of patrons, serving of food and drink and working behind the bar.

All FOH team members will be required to have an in-depth knowledge of all shows being presented and be able to talk with knowledge about all productions to patrons.

Dates of engagement: 3rd August – 1st September

Working Hour: As required. You must be available to work evening and weekends. Shifts may consist of split shifts.

Answering to the Theatre Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating a friendly, inviting atmosphere for all patrons.
  • Answering patrons questions and troubleshooting where required.
  • Keeping the flow of audience members in and out of each venue within the specified times.
  • Keeping all theatre spaces and FOH areas clean, tidy and presentable including the car and food areas.
  • Assisting accessible needs patrons at each venue.
  • Greeting and hosting VIP guest and the press.

Applicants must have exceptional customer service skills, be able to operate efficiently and professionally under pressure and have an outgoing and friendly personality.

Answering to the Food and Beverage Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing, cooking and presenting food quickly and efficiently to meet our standards.
  • Keeping the kitchen area clean, hygienic and tidy, at all times.
  • Working safely around kitchen equipment and report any maintenance issues to the manager.
  • Completing all appropriate company documentation and key tasks, on every shift.
  • Always adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Be a proactive member of the team.
  • Carry out instructions given by the management team.

Dates of engagement: 3rd August – 1st September

Working Hours: A minimum of 8 hours per day throughout the run, with longer days at the start and end for set up.
Days Off: A minimum of 2 days off throughout the run. However, we will endeavour to give one day off per week.

The Person we’re looking for:

  • Proactive and diligent team player.
  • An interest in sustainable practices.
  • Ability to stay calm and efficient under pressure.
  • Ideally had a level 2 food hygiene certificate.
  • To be available to work every day throughout the dates of engagement.
